A fatal car crash on U.S. 136 has killed one woman and one child Saturday evening.
According to a release sent by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of U.S. 136 and County Road 650 West after receiving a report of a car accident at around 5:10 p.m. Deputies arrived to find a 2007 Jeep Liberty overturned in a ditch on fire, and a 2000 Ford Taurus partially off the roadway.
Officials learned that the 2007 Jeep was traveling eastbound on U.S. 136 when the 2000 Ford traveling westbound had crossed the center line into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason, causing a head-on collision.
The driver of the Ford, who was identified as 45-year-old Courtney Tolbert of Alamo, IN, was pronounced dead at the scene. A one-year-old child that was in the Jeep at the time of the accident was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Michelle Caldwell-Davis of Waynetown, alongside another juvenile passenger, were both transported to an Indianapolis-area hospital after being sent to Franciscan Health by the Crawfordsville Fire Department. Both of their conditions are currently unknown.
