Cleanup of destroyed Mill Street church to begin

The City of Crawfordsville announced in a press release that it has reached an agreement with Greene Realty LLC regarding the site of the destroyed former One Way Pentecostal Apostolic Church on Thursday. The Montgomery County Superior Court 2 entered an Agreed Judgment in favor of the City, stating that a “nuisance condition exists” at the property, which is currently nothing but rubble.

The site at 802 Mill Street was the scene of a massive blaze in late December 2024. No injuries nor fatalities were reported, but the former church was deemed a total loss. It was bulldozed the next day, leaving broken glass, concrete, and wood in its place.

The fire was discovered to be an alleged act of arson. Crawfordsville residents Tanner Northcutt and Dailee Pender were both arrested in connection to the blaze in summer 2025. According to online court records, Northcutt’s jury trial is scheduled for June 2. Pender’s has been scheduled for May 26.

Greene Realty LLC, the property owners, were ordered to clean up the property within 30 days by hauling away any debris; compacting the property to grade with the help of an engineer; and covering the area with topsoil followed by seeding and strawing. If the company doesn’t comply, then the City will handle cleanup efforts itself or with the help of contractors. Any associated costs would be charged directly to Greene Realty LLC, followed by the placement of a lien on the property. If they complete rehabilitation efforts within the timeframe, then all costs would be waived.
